In their own words: “Holiday-Rentals - the UK’s No 1 self-catering accommodation website. 122,000+ places to relax, laugh, play and enjoy with friends and family”. Part of the larger Home Away group of rental property websites, this site specifically targets the UK tourist, with properties around the world to choose from (78,431 in Europe alone). The site is professional looking and simple to use.

The stats are a little bit tricky to dig into, they claim to reach “40 million travellers a year” although I believe that to be across all of their international websites (of which there are 11 including this one). I’ve emailed them for clarification on the UK stats and will update if / when they get back to me, if not I’ll do a MARG calculation. When you pay for a listing on Holiday Rentals, you also get a basic listing on the other 10 international websites.

Their 12 month package includes:

  • Your full advert on Holiday-Rentals.co.uk including four large photos, location map and availability chart
  • Free basic advert on 10 of our international sites including a basic translation into the local language
  • Free SMS booking enquiry alerts
This package costs £189 or Euro 269 (you chose which currency to pay in) with additional properties ‘within the same complex’ costing £69. They also have a variety of International Upgrade options if you want to enhance your basic listing on one or more of the other 10 websites.
Other ways of spending more with them include ‘featured listing’ (Euro 60) and additional photos (up to 8, Euro 7.5 per photo). They offer a free reciprocal linking service.

All in all this looks like a good, high traffic website for targetting the UK traveller although there’s some pretty strong claims on the site which strike me as marketing guff: “We’re number 1 for enquiries, exposure, owners and marketing”. I’d be interested to know how they know they’re number 1 for enquiries? Have they checked that with all the other directories out there? What’s your experience been of this directory?
